Allow me to take you on a journey into the grim and dark future of endless war, blind zealotry and cynicism - the dystopian world of Warhammer 40,000 awaits. Even though WFRP is my default go-to game, I do play other titles as well... occasionally. One of them, and one that I enjoy a lot, is the Fantasy Flight Games' 1st edition of Dark Heresy. Now it wasn't always that way, as those who read my blog for some time, know already. I used to dislike DH a lot, but that was a long, long time ago. Currently I only have fond memories of this game, and would very much like to run it in the near future. Some time ago I've decided to share a bunch of fan-made materials for WFRP. Now it's time for my 40K RPG's resource collection. I've played a couple of FFG's role-playing games, set in the grim darkness of the far future. Despite a rocky start (a shitty player was its cause), from the perspective of time I consider them good games. Sure they have a number of flaws, but all in all they're very decent titles and work well in introducing others to the universe of Warhammer 40,00. Not to mention that the Dark Heresy is a perfect way of showing people that the galaxy of 40K is more than just "only war". It's also about looking fabulous, even in a heavy rain! But I digress. It's no big secret that I don't exactly enjoy the current iteration of WH40K. The rules are overbloated, needlessly convoluted and are favoring certain factions to the point of absurdity. Fortunately Games Workshop has announced that the 8th edition will soon hit the stores. Not only that, but a huge ammount of info has been released to the general public, including new rules and the contents of starter box. I must commend GW on their social media skills, they've really made a huge improvement in their online marketing department. Would you look at the time? It's rant-o-clock and now I'm going to speak about one of the most popular wargaming franchise ever made - Warhammer 40,000. I love WH40K. For me it's one of the most ineresting fictional settings out there. The right ammount of miliatry fiction, sci-fi, mysticism and humor, make it so goddamn awesome. It also has a major presence in popular media, like video games, which actually means that even non-players usually know what 40K is. Robbie MacNiven written in one of his blog posts that 40K is probably the biggest, fictional science fiction franchise aside from Star Wars, and I tend to agree. It's simply huge and fantastic. The world, the lore, the mythology, the endless possibilities for creating new stories and fantastic tales - Warhammer 40,000 has it all and more. Straight to the point. Two days ago Relic has shown the whole world the new trailer for Dawn of War 3, along with some gameplay pics. Is it everything that we've hoped for? I like Dawn of War games a lot. Both the first one, more in the spirit of the classic Starcraft series (which never stuck with me for some reason), and its sequel, which took a lot from Company of Heroes, and showed us that smaller scale battles in the universe of 40K can be just as exciting. I've never finished the first DoW titles, an error that I plan to rectify by installing the whole collection on my Steam account and playing it, one after the other. With DoW 2 I've managed to play the first two titles from start to finish, and had a real blast with them, especially with the corruption system in Chaos Rising (Avitus got what he deserved, the racist, Guardsmen hating prick that he was). Took me some time. As always. Anyway here's the continuation of the Ebenhard VII campaign. The bugs are still in the game, but both the Space Marines and the Inquisition have a few aces in their sleeves. This KT game was played between 3 players. We need to talk dear 40K fanbase. We need to talk about your attitude, which lately has been... lacking to say the least. But first a daily reminder that Age of Sigmar a shit. Before we dive into some ratty goodness of "End Times: Thanquol", let's take a small brake and explore the wonderful world of Kill Team, courtesy of always excellent Heralds of Ruin. This is my third Kill Team game and the second one that I was playing against Tyranids. My friend Chris, who got his baptism by fire while fighting against Orks, was up for the challenge and so we prepared our lists and got to work. The game was played at 250 points, standard for Kill Team. We've rolled for the sabotage scenarion, and Chris decided to attack my well entrenched Guardsemn, who were defending a couple of field-stricken Chimeras. Obviously Chris is new to this game, as not only he was attacking me, but also provided my forces with some homemeade (and totaly awesome!) Aegis Defence Line fortifications, which he made himself!
