Grimvember 2017 is here! It's time for an interview with Clint Lee Werner!

Here's something for all of the fans of ruthless bounty hunters, killers of witches and Grey Seers - an interview with a man, who writes and understand such character better than anyone, Clint Lee Werner himself. I always loved the anti-hero trope. Not for me were the goody-two-shoes kind of characters, whose only problems revolve around their immaculate, shiny armor and magical swords of slaying goblins +2. I guess that's why I always liked Warhammer Fantasy so much (well, except for a short period of time, as some of you may know). This world is full of heroes who, in most other fantasy settings, could be even described as villains. Hell, even Gotrek and Felix are far from being a crystal clear duo of characters, what with their murder hobo kind of approach to many problems. Of course they are still the good guys and the readers know it. When it comes to Brunner the Bounty Hunter and Witch Finder Mathias Thulmann, however, things are not so simple. Is this a face of a ...

Xathrodox86 reviews: Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide

Image
I used to be a huge online games player. The act of pitting one's skill against a living opponent is always fun, but there is one thing in online gaming that I absolutely adore - cooperation. "Left 4 Dead", "Sniper Elite", "Far Cry 3" - these are only some of the games that I've played with friends in a cooperative mode. We had a blast during those sessions, helping each other, yelling through microphones late in the night, and generally just having a grand time. Now, after a two year brake, I've returned to the wonderful world of coop a few weeks ago, after finally purchasing " Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide". All I have to say are three words: money well spent. Damn straight! "Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide" is a first person coop game, made by Fatshark, a company previously known for such titles as "War of the Roses" and "Hamilton's Great Adventure". Certainly they can't be con...

Third time's the charm. "End Times: Archaon" has been concluded!

The last three heroes of the final "End Times" book have arrived and are ready for a proper and stern review. Yeah... it's time to finally end this. This ET review took me more time than the actual event and that's really embarassing... kinda. Anyway here it is. The end of the "End Times: Archaon". 1. Grimgor, Incarnate of Beasts Lean, mean and green killing machine! He's big, he's bad and he's back! Everyone's favorite not-Ghazghkull plays a major role in the "End Times" and his stats and abilities reflect that nicely. Unsurprisingly Grimgor is a CQC monster with a whooping 6 Attacks, WS of 8 and Strength 6 he's a force to be reckoned with. Combine that with his special rules, like the "Best of da best" which lets him re-roll failed To Hit and To Wound hits in a challenge and you have one nasty customer. Aside from his obvious role as an ass-kicking machine, he's also a decent army buffer. "Da...

The Lords of Skavendom emerge from the shadows. Here is the last part of the "End Times: Thanquol review!

This is it. My final part of the "Thanquol" review is finally here. So far this one's the best entry in the "End Times" series, apart maybe from the "Nagash". But how will its character section fare, when compared to other parts of this supplement? Thanquol is brimming with special characters. It has 4 versions of Verminlords, including one that is unique, buffed up Thanquol and a single dwarf hero, who's also an Incarnate. For the sake of this post I'll bhe reviewing only the named characters. Generic Verminlords will be covered in my "End Times" unit review, after the "Archaon". 1. Thanquol and Boneripper, Ascendant Grey Seer and Enhanced Bodyguard Finally he got the recognition that he deserves (photo by Arklight Studio) Gotrek and Felix's favorite Nemesis returns and he's better than ever! Costing a hefty 650 points, and sporting a combined profile with his bodyguard, Thanquol is a best in both m...

The armies of the Under-Empire gather for war. Here is part 2 of the "End Times: Thanquol" review

It's time to dive back into the "End Times". AoS is in full swing and for once I'm glad to be back, reviewing the fourth installment of the Old World-shattering event. In this article I'll be covering the special army formations that "Thanquol" gave us, called "Battlescrols". There are quite a few and each of them brings something new to the tabletop. But are they any good? Well, you'll have to read this fine and completely unbiased wall of letters to find out. 1. Thanquol's Uprising (Skaven) The Skaven came under new management The first organized Skaven force in history, this army represents Thanquol's bid for power in the Under-Empire. Of all the various forces available in this book, this one is pretty sweet. Lead by Thanquol himself and supported by Screech Verminking, the strongest of all the Verminlords, it allows the controlling player to ignore the 25% requirement of Core units. Not only that, but any unit ...

Jungles burn and Mountains fall. Here comes the "End Times: Thanquol"!

With Age of Sigmar coming closer with every day, it's finally time to finish my impromtu review (or trial) of the "End Times". The only books left are "Thanquol" and "Archaon". Today I'll review the rules presented in the former installment of the "End Times" saga. Just FYI I won't be doing any posts about Age of Sigmar (or 9th edition or whatever the hell it will be) until it eventually comes out. I don't belive the rumors in general and don't like to speculate based on some (usually very poor) snippets of information, gathered from various blogs and websites. When AoT gets released I'll do a post about it. Until then however let's stick to the "End Times" and see this review to its very end. Otherwise the Rats will get me However I do NOT have a good feeling about Age of Sigmar. Call me a pessimist but I just don't. Just like "Khaine" before it, "Thanquol" is quite hug...

Xathrodox86 reviews: "Chaos in the Old World"

Image
A fun and challenging game, "Chaos in the Old World" lets you become one of the four (or five if you count the expansion) Chaos Gods, whose ultimate goal is the destruction of Warhammer world. However, as Chaos itself, it can be fickle and capricious, and to be honest, completely unfair. Now YOU can be a God too! I've played "Chaos in the Old World" back in 2009 with my former RPG group. It was a nice change from our weekly gaming sessions and it, along with "A game of Thrones" has shown me that board games can be just as fun to play as any PnP. That said I was rather surprised that during my first game ever I've managed to beat all three of my buds while playing Khorne. They've told me back then that it was perfecty normal and that not all Gods are equal. I was able toconfirm that claim, when I've bought the game myself, just a month ago. Since then I've played it twice and each time had a lot of fun doing so. That said, "Ch...
