It always rains in Nuln

This post was supposed to be about the movie "Black Death", starring Sean Bean, but I've decided to go for a slightly more optimistic tone this time. Especially since last time it was a trip to depression city with my previous post. Delta Green... oh man, where do I begin? Ha! I know! It's the best RPG that I've played in the last 5 years. Yeah, I've just said it. I've tested a bunch of new systems over the course of a lot couple of years, including the Aegis Project and the Apocalypse World, but none have made such a strong impression on me, as Delta Green. This art really tells you everything about the game. I love it! To those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, here's the general gist. Delta Green is a game about the Lovecraftian Mythos, but instead of playing a terrified investigator, who normally works as a bookstore manager, you're playing a goverment agent, a specialist of some kind, or a badass ex-special force...

In a couple of days I'll be running the first session of "Lichemaster" for my original group (well, what's left of it anyway). It's the second time that I'm GM'ing this campaign and the last time that I'm doing so, using the 2nd edition WFRP's ruleset. Let me be perfectly clear: I love the 2nd edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. It's the game that started my whole journey into this hobby. I still have my battered, spineless rulebook that I've bought for my last money, more than a decade ago. I have almost every, single sourcebook for 2nd edition, except "The Renegade Crowns" (planning on buying that soon!). I've clocked hundreds, if not thousands of hours into this system. And I don't want to play it anymore. It's time to move on... After finishing "The Thousand Thrones" in my Roll20 group, and the "Lichemaster/The Enemy Within" in my IRL group, I won't be returning to 2nd edit...

Everyone loves Nic Cage. The man's an absolute legend and he automatically makes every film in which he stars 100 times better. He single-handedly saved the "Wicker Man" remake! When I saw the poster for "Season of the Witch", directed by Dominic Sena, I knew that I'm in for a ride. Nicolas Cage fighting witches, while having a budding romance with Ron Perlman? Count me in! The poster says it all. It has hellish flames, fantastic font and Nic Cage with long, greasy hair, holding a longsword. Seriously, you can't go wrong with stuff like that! And the names... Just look at them! Behmen von Bleibruck, Felson, Kay von Wollenbarth and Johann Eckhardt. These are some of the most 'Hammer names of all time. Oh yeah, "Season of the Witch" is one of my quintessential Warhammer movies, right there with "Solomon Kane" and "Black Death"! Just look at that poster. I must have it! This article was supposed to be a movie review, but seeing what is happening in the hobby right now, I've decided to add my two cents about this whole mess. I'm not going to write an essay about this, nor am I going to enter in a lengthy philosophical mono-debate. Any sort of abusive behaviour is condemnable and should not be present at a table, or anywhere else. If you'll ever see someone being harassed, threatened or insulted in any way - react. Don't avert your eyes, don't claim that everything's cool and "it's just a joke bro". Do something. What Smith did was horrendous and even though it concerns mainly the DnD community, of which I am not a part, it still should be talked about and dispraised. After reading the account of his ex-partner, I've felt nothing but sadness and disgust at equal measure. Hell, the 2019 really went of well, didn't it? My last post was made almost a month ago! That said I did had a lot of work and am still struggling with some personal stuff, so you know... it happens. That said I do plan to return to more frequent posting and will actually write another one next week, to make for my absence. Today, however, I would like to address a rather serious ailment, which can be found in many a RPG groups, including mine - min-maxing. Min-maxing is probably one of the worst, and the stupidest, things that can occur around a gaming table. It is an absolute travesty and a thing that should never, ever happen. Why? Let me tell you.
